I believe I have fixed my problem. I have a wired, dual-WAN router, which started dropping connections at some point with a Vista patch released a few months ago. My two XP boxes and Linux box did not have the connectivity issue. I replaced the Netgear router with a Linksys dual-wan RV and have had no problems since. IMO, there was some incompatibility between a Vista patch and some routers, including mine. In any event, it's been two weeks and everything is humming along.
